Why should I use one download method compared to another?

The methodology that you use is entirely dependent on your own preferences and circumstances.

We would highly recommend using the built in  AFD app that is designed to be faster and easier to audit than other methods of download.  If you are able to install the AFD app on a desktop computer (or indeed multiple computers), you will be able to request that the file is downloaded to whichever of your AFD installed devices you choose, even if you are browsing the site on a tablet or mobile phone.  See our video guide to downloading, installing and using the AFD app here.

For many users, their Organisation will have set up an FTP location that files can be delivered to automatically when they are ready.  If this option is enabled for you, a button will be visible on the record to allow FTP download to your Organisation's selected location.

Finally, for those who are not short of time, or who may have restrictions on the types of software they can install on their devices, simply downloading within the browser may be most appropriate.  For users on tablets or mobile phones, this methodology is usually preferable, although obviously downloading large media files to mobiles may incur costs and the file may occupy a significant proportion of the space available on the device.
